TESDA Sorsogon implements barangay-based skills training under TWSP

Aiming to give equal opportunity to every individual in the community who has little access to skills training, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Sorsogon provincial office launched barangay-based skills training program in different municipalities in the province under the Training for Work Scholarship Program.

Relative to the launching, the provincial office has conducted a series of training induction programs with Supervising TESD Specialist Ricardo B. Detecio along with the training providers starting last March 6, 2017 in the barangays to orient the trainees on the rules and regulations including some reminders to be observed during the entire duration of the training period. The trainees were also walked through the training process as to prepare and give them a clear grasp of what to expect and comply once the training starts.

Among the municipalities with skills training programs implemented in their barangays are Irosin, Bulan, Pto. Diaz, Barcelona, Bulusan, Castilla, Juban, Sta. Magdalena, Pilar and Sorsogon City.

The qualification/courses implemented were based from the submitted Barangay Skills Needs Survey which aims to identify the skills needs and preference of the residents in every barangay. Furthermore, the prospective beneficiaries were selected based on the said survey conducted in the barangays of each municipality.

The Barangay Kasanayan para sa Kabuhayan at Kapayapaan is a flagship program under the new administration headed by TESDA Director General Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong which aims to offer programs that will directly respond to the skills requirements and employment opportunities in the localities. This is in line with the new thrust of the new administration which is “Malasakit at Pagbabago, TESDA, Susi sa Kinabukasan.”
