TESDA Sorsogon to train drug surrenderees, partners with PNP and DSWD
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Sorsogon Provincial office embarked in a skills training program for the surrendering drug users (SDU’s) in the municipality of Bulusan in partnership with Philippine National Police-Sorsogon, Department of Social Welfare and Development and Bulusan National Vocational Technical School.

In pursuance to the creation of an inter-agency committee that aims to strengthen partnerships among stakeholders and integrate efforts on the ongoing war against illegal drugs in the country, TESDA Sorsogon has joined DWSD and PNP-Bulusan in a forum on the “Process of Handling & Management of Surrendering Drug Users (SDU’S)” organized by the local government and rural health unit of Bulusan last November 29, 2016 at Bulusan Cultural Center.

TESDA Sorsogon Provincial Director Jose V. Serrano Jr. mentioned during the forum the agency’s rigorous efforts in helping drug dependents/surrenderees get armed with skills and livelihood opportunity.

“Our goal is to provide them [surrendering drug users] with skills training so that their interest will shift to something different.”, Serrano said.
​
Among the qualifications courses to be offered are Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC I, Electrical Installation Maintenance NC I and Automotive Servicing NC I which will be catered to the 109 surrenderees identified by PNP Bulusan of which 50 were assessed and endorsed by MWSDO.

The skills training will start as soon as the batches per qualification courses are completed with Bulusan Vocational Technical School as the administering training provider headed by School Administrator Engr. Roan P. Espinas.

The joint efforts are in pursuance to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s war against illegal drugs and TESDA Circular on Institutionalizing Drug Abuse Prevention and Post Rehabilitation programs in all public and private Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs) and TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs).
